American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) Releases 2018 Annual Report

Data shows continuity of hip and knee arthroplasty trends, and the value of more complete information for early survival analysis of primary arthroplasty

ROSEMONT, Ill. (November 2, 2018)—The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR)—the cornerstone of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) Registry Program—released its 2018 Annual Report on hip and knee arthroplasty patient outcomes. AJRR is the largest orthopaedic registry in the world based on annual procedures submitted, and the analysis provides insight into U.S. hip and knee arthroplasty practice. The Annual Report, released in conjunction with the first day of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons’ (AAHKS) 2018 Annual Meeting, includes findings from the 1,186,955 cumulative procedures performed between 2012 and 2017.

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Announces the Launch of its Shoulder and Elbow Registry

Mission to improve orthopaedic care through the collection, analysis, and reporting of actionable data

ROSEMONT, Ill. (October 24, 2018) — The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) announced the launch of its Shoulder and Elbow Registry (SER) to begin collecting data on total shoulder and elbow procedures in the United States. At launch, the SER will collect total shoulder arthroplasty procedures data. In 2019, the registry also will have the capability to capture rotator cuff repair and total elbow arthroplasty procedures data.

AJRR Conducts Study on Hospital Size and Revision Procedure Correlation

(March 6, 2018) — The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), a hip and knee replacement database part of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) registries portfolio, has conducted a study analyzing the correlation between hospital size, the reason for revision (or re-do) surgery, and where total joint arthroplasty (TJA) revision surgery is performed. The link between these three factors has not been studied extensively until now.

The Executive Committee members include: Kevin J. Bozic, MD, MBA, as chair; Bryan D. Springer, MD, as vice chair; and Scott M. Sporer, MD, as secretary. David E. Mino, MD, MBA, continues as treasurer and Yvonne Bokelman, MBA, FACHE, transitions to her new role as AdvaMed Representative. AJRR became part of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) registries portfolio in October 2017, at which time the AJRR Board of Directors became the AJRR Steering Committee.

AAOS Receives 2018 QCDR Designation From CMS

AAOS Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center to have 38 measures and help surgeons with MIPS

Rosemont, Ill. (January 29, 2018) — The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center has been designated as a qualified clinical data registry (QCDR) by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2018. In 2017, AAOS integrated with the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), the national hip and knee registry, and inherited the QCDR. The Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center has been designated as a QCDR since 2014, and can help eligible professionals (EPs) and group practices receive positive payment adjustments and avoid penalties under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) component of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

Joint Infection Burden Analysis Wins ISAR Best Poster

 

Rosemont, Ill. – June 23, 2017 – The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), a clinical data registry for the collection of hip and knee replacement data, was awarded the “Best Poster Presentation” by the International Society of Arthroplasty Registries (ISAR) at the 6th International Congress of Arthroplasty Registries meeting last month. The poster, “Infection burden in total hip and knee arthroplasty: an international registry based perspective,” was based on an original research article published in the June issue of Arthroplasty Today.

National Registry and Surgery Centers Collaborate to Affirm Quality

AJRR and ASCA partner to validate the effectiveness of outpatient surgery centers

Rosemont, Ill. - March 7, 2017 - The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) and the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) announce they have entered into a collaborative relationship to encourage ASCA-member ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) to register in the AJRR. Registry participation, and the data that will be complied, will be used to validate current efforts to reduce health care costs by moving total joint replacements to Medicare's ASC-payable list and expanding the number of private payers that will reimburse ASCs for these procedures.
